Duties of the Barrier-Free Unit Commission
- The commission is formed by the dean and begins its activities with the approval of the faculty board. The Dean chairs the Commission when necessary.
- Develops recommendations for physical arrangements that will facilitate disabled students' access to classrooms, laboratories, libraries and other areas.
- Ensures that educational materials are accessible to people with visual, hearing and learning disabilities.
- Evaluates the compliance of ramps, elevators, toilets and direction signs in faculty buildings with the legislation and recommends the necessary arrangements.
- The faculty reviews the general accessibility level of the campus and shares the identified deficiencies with the university administration.
- Develops academic, psychological and social support mechanisms for students with disabilities; ensures that necessary adaptations are made in exams and other academic processes.
- It organizes seminars, trainings, panels and workshops to raise awareness about disabled individuals.
- It organizes campaigns and events to popularize the concept of “Barrier-Free University”.
- Communicates regularly with students with disabilities and directly addresses their needs and demands.
- Working in collaboration with the University's Disability Research and Application Center, it develops faculty-specific solution proposals.
- It collects and archives data on the number of disabled individuals, types of disabilities and their needs.
- Evaluates the impact of the work done and presents the developments to the faculty management in regular reports.
- It carries out activities in accordance with the criteria of platforms such as YÖK and “Barrier-Free University Awards” and develops projects suitable for application.
- The Commission meets at least twice a year; meeting decisions are recorded in minutes and summary information is published on the website.
- Members continue their duties until a new appointment is made; those who leave are replaced by new appointments made by the dean's office.
- Members are required to attend meetings, and those who do not attend without a valid excuse will be subject to evaluation.
