Bees play a vital role in the balance of nature, the production of bee products and food safety. Approximately one third of plant production is made possible by the pollination carried out by bees. In this respect, bees are not only the main actors of honey production, but also of sustainable production and ecosystem health.
World Bee Day, celebrated every year on May 20 by the United Nations, was declared in order to draw attention to the critical role of bees in biodiversity, shed light on the reasons for the decline in the bee population and to raise awareness in society on this issue.
Many threats such as climate change, pesticide use, shrinkage of living spaces and bee diseases endanger the lives of bees, thus negatively affecting the natural balance. For this reason, it is of great importance to take conscious steps towards the protection of bees both at individual and institutional levels.
On this meaningful day; we once again remember our responsibility to protect bees, the silent heroes of nature, and respectfully greet our laborers engaged in beekeeping.
